Petrogenium.

Dieter Westermann

Principal Consultant

Dieter is a passionate process engineer. His specialties are technologies for the hydro purification of crude benzene and the extractive distillation of benzene, toluene and xylenes. Several projects for quality and yield improvement as well as energy saving have been developed and put into practice. For example, double heat utilization by pressure distillation and heating of the downstream columns with the hot vapors from the upstream column and waste heat utilization by a neighboring malting plant.

Dieter acquired his expertise first as a plant engineer, then as a plant manager, and then for 28 years as technical manager in a small refinery in Gelsenkirchen. He played a key role in technical projects, brought about investment decisions, negotiated and supervised construction and commissioning, and was also responsible for these projects vis-à-vis the shareholders.

At the end of his professional phase, he acquired a neighboring plot of land, had the old building demolished and planned a tank farm with loading infrastructure for all intermediate and finished products of the refinery operation, carried out an official approval procedure and, as a freelancer, also built and commissioned the first construction phase.

Since 2023, he has been working for Petrogenium on a tank farm project for renewable energies in Duisburg.
