Michael Conway Nunn

Practice Lead Hydrocarbon Logistics & Oil Movement

Michael is a professional with 33 years of experience in Refining, Chemicals and Hydrocarbon Logistics including: master planning, supply chain, product quality assurance, process technology, process engineering, process design, process safety, optimisation and operational support. He is able to apply a high-level master planning mindset while still being proficient in detailed design. Michael is a subject matter expert having well developed integration, problem solving and analytical skills. From a cross-discipline perspective, he has much experience in leading multi-disciplinary teams and is at home with mechanical, civil, inspection, operational, marine, product quality, instrumentation, process control and safeguarding concepts. This is particularly powerful when applied to problem solving, as well as conceptual and detailed design.

Michael has a proven track record of developing logistic and blending design concepts and following them through the various project phases to successful operating assets that deliver significant margin gains. He has 19 years of SAPREF joint venture (Shell and BP) and 15 years of Shell experience in a wide range of roles related to hydrocarbon logistics. From a refinery and chemicals economic perspective, he has successfully justified a long list of approved and implemented projects and plant changes. Being passionate about process safety he has a proven history of delivering safe and robust designs.

In 2024 Michael left Shell and joined Petrogenium as a Practice Lead Hydrocarbon Logistics & Oil Movement. Consultancy is not new to him as he was a Global Oil Movements and Product Quality Consultant in Shell Projects and Technology from 2008 to 2013. Having excellent stakeholder management skills that have been developed in complex operational and process environments, he is a valuable asset to any team or project.
